Microphone only working for Safari - no other apps

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following; 

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts 

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

OK I assume you already checked the output volume and that it is not muted.

Even when you Quit Safari (Command-Q) the mic doesn't work?

Try to power off the computer completely, unplug, wait, plug back, start the computer. Any change?

You may try to reset the SMC and/Or the PRAM. How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support.

". Unplug from power!

Any third party software/application installed? Remember of any change before the problem?

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus

What do you see in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone ?

"Even in the system preferences the microphone is not working". Please explain.
