October 2020 download stopped my printer permanently and left this on my desktop“HPDeviceMonitoring.framework" will damage your computer.

I'm on macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.7 and this download causes a message to appear as follows:

MAC - Notice received from them after download:

“HPDeviceMonitoring.framework" will damage your computer.

This file was downloaded on an unknown date.

Report malware to Apple to protect other users

Show in Finder             OK

The reason this has happened is because HP inadvertently (their word) issued cancellation certificates on older HP printers, which is what I have. So in the OS download the HP printers that have been issued these certificates cause this message above to attach itself to your screen from Apple - and there is no way to get rid of it - it just keeps refreshing if you try to close it and parks on your desktop permanently.

I've spent hours trying to figure this out. There are some fancy suggestions on YouTube about getting rid of this via going into the library and other places I'd rather not go, quite frankly. I see it as the responsibility of Apple Mac to correct this via another download in the very near future. But does anyone know if this will happen?

In addition to this I cannot print now. I wrote to HP but of course my printer is 10 yrs. old and I don't expect them to come up with a solution. They give good service and if I've ever had a glitch with the printer I've always been able to easily solve it myself using their instructions open to all HP users.

This is really quite cruel from the point-of-view that I am fixed income and rely on my computer and printer daily. I certainly don't have the funds to purchase another printer, particularly when I know there's nothing at all wrong with this one - except that Apple has stopped it operating. Is this how we're supposed to be helping each other in this pandemic? I just don't get it, but if anyone has an idea how I could fix this myself I would be so grateful, as long as it's not too complicated, please...

Hi Mini Mac User!

As I’m sure you’ve seen there has been much talk about this recently. There should be an update available either from Apple, in System Preferences > Software Update, or directly from HP, Apple has an update available here:

https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

If those didn’t work, I did post a possible solution here, that has worked for myself and others, hope all goes well!:

DiZoe, brilliant! I feel so much better - your instructions are clear and concise and easy to understand. At the moment I am just too worn out to try acting on this but tomorrow, for sure, I will! I'm pretty sure it will work too with the base you provide. I am so lucky my dino printer is on the HP list for software available, it's got to be at least 10 yrs. old.

I will let you know if it fixes the issue.

Best wishes and THANKS AGAIN!
