PDF plugin will damage your computer

When I try to print to my HP Envy printer I get the error message that the pdf plugin will damage my computer. It interferes with printing. I read there it is an HP certificate problem but I'm having trouble trying to find and down load a new HP driver. Thanks

You're in luck. The HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One is AirPrint-enabled.

The solution to your concern is to delete that printer from Printers & Scanners, and add it again as an AirPrint printer. You must specifically indicate AirPrint. You can then delete the offending HP files as they appear. They're not necessary, and with an invalid security certificate they are not doing anything anyway.

For instructions refer to Connect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network. Sometimes it's necessary to reboot your router to recognize a newly added AirPrint device, so it couldn't hurt to do that: unplug its power cord, let it rest a moment, plug it back in.

Which HP Envy printer model are you using? The exact model designation please.

If it is an AirPrint-enabled printer no manufacturer-provided software or drivers are necessary, and the affected files can simply be deleted. See below.
If it is not an AirPrint-enabled printer you will need to wait until HP fixes the problem they caused a week ago by revoking the security certificates for their software. Check Software Update: How to update the software on your Mac - Apple Support. If HP has not fixed it by now, check Software Update some other time. Repeat tomorrow, next week, or as often as necessary until you eventually decide to give up on HP and buy a printer from a company that actually knows what they're doing.

Otherwise please contact HP or peruse their community help site, which recently become overwhelmed with reports substantially identical to yours: HP Printer Setup, Software & Drivers.

Apple recommends that you do not install any software that came with the printer or from the manufacturer's website. If you did, remove that software, and then add the printer to Printers & Scanners again as AirPrint-enabled printer. The existing printer entry can and should then be removed.

As of this writing there are well over 6000 AirPrint-enabled printers and multifunction devices. Over 1000 of them are HP devices. I don't recommend any of them.
