My Apple TV device isn't showing up in my finder when I connect it to my Mac

My Apple TV device isn't showing up in my finder when I connect it to my Mac, what is wrong with it? I have tried it with my MacBook and my Mac PC, so it's something wrong with the Apple TV I presume. It is flashing to show that the Apple TV is on but it isn't showing up in my finder or iTunes. I have updated my laptop to the Mac Big Sur Beta, so I don't think it would show in iTunes anymore anyway. And I need to restore my Apple TV to be able to set it up. How can I restore it?

Restore your Apple TV - Apple Support

On Macs with Catalina or later, the Apple TV should show up in the sidebar of a Finder window; not as a device on the Desktop.

On Macs with Mojave or earlier, the Apple TV should show up in iTunes.

  • This will require a USB cable that supports data transfer. Not a changing cable that may have reduced functionality.
  • The Apple TV (2nd generation) should not be powered on its own during the restore, unlike later models.
