I have a 2011 iMac 27' which runs Mac OS High Sierra which has been off for eight months. Now I cannot get in as it rejects my login name or password each time I try. How can this be fixed? All the answers I see seem to apply to Catalina or Mojave, rather than the older High Sierra.

Thanks to all those you replied to my issue. Don't worry anymore, I have solved it. I laughed (with Command R) the utilities. From the menu, chose Terminal, typed 'reset password' and did all the actions I was guided to do. All solved Now works. Thanks again
