MacBook speakers are SO quiet

My MacBook Air (from about 2017) speakers are very quiet. I went into the settings and put all the output volumes at maximum but the sound on my Mac is still SO quiet. My Mac OS is up to date and I haven't done anything to damage the external speakers.

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15
