Trying to install the macOS Catalina update in my Mac

Hello,

I am trying to install the macOS Catalina update in my mac (I still have the 10.9.5 software) but it won´t allow me to do so. It gets stuck in the installing process and won´t let me go through. I am trying to download some apps that require me to update my software.
