Photos 1.5 on El Capitan and third party editing

Is there a version of Photos which will allow me to use Photoshop for editing on Mac OSX10.11.6 (El Capitan)? This worked before I had a system meltdown, but now that I've reinstalled El Capitan, I seem to have lost this function. Photos 1.5 is currently installed. Do I need a different version of Photos and how can I get it?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Note that I'm on an early 2009 iMac and cannot run OS software any newer than El Capitan!
