Adding transitions to clips above main storyline.

How do I add a transition to a clip layered above the main storyline without affecting the clip below? For example, I have a station logo above the main storyline that I want to add a transition to so it animates in (like a push, blur, etc.) but when I apply the transition, it affects the main storyline layer. I'm coming from Adobe Premiere where this is easily done. I have experimented with several transitions and getting frustrated trying to get it to work. Surely there is a way.

If you look carefully you will see that there is a small difference between my screenshots and yours: in the last screenshot my compound clip is still inside a storyline, but your isn’t. It seems that you selected the storyline and made the compound. Try NOT selecting the storyline, but select the clip and the transition - as seen im my first screenshot- and make the compound.

Can you post a screenshot of that part of your timeline, before and after making the compound clip?


I tried it with the Push transition and it worked. Here is an example. I used the circle from the "Shapes" generator as my "logo", coming down from the top.


Before making a compound:



Then I pressed Option-G to make the logo and transition into a compound:



And here is the result:
