hey, I had an email saying my icloud account has been locked today for security reasons & I don’t know why that is so I just wanted to make sure if it was a legit email or scam?

That email is Not from Apple. The “verify account” link will take you to a web site that will steal your login and password. It’s a scam and other personal information.
Apple never sends an unsolicited email, text or telephone call. The only way you’d know if there was an issue with your account would be when you tried to use it and something goes wrong. Then You would contact Apple support to initiate fixing the situation.
