iMovie 10.1.15 defaults to loading photo library - spinning wheel on start up

When I open iMovie on our 2020 MacBook Pro 13inch running Catalina 10.15.7 the default is for it to load My Media and open and show the photos library. I have some 50,000 photos and 3,000 videos housed in Photos and it takes several minutes to load the library while the colorful spinning wheel goes round and round. Is there a way to change the default behavior so it loads something other than photos? Maybe start with Audio so it opens faster?

Thanks!

Hi, obone

I know of no way to change the default behavior. However, iMovie shouldn't take several minutes to load, unless your iMovie library is very large. Or unless you are running low on free space on your drive. Check those items. If all O.K, then do the diagnostic procedures listed below.

  1. Try deleting preferences. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Then close iMovie and reopen to see whether it loads faster.

2.If no luck, try opening iMovie in a new library.  To do that, open iMovie while holding down the Option key and then selecting to create a new library in the box that appears.

3.Failing that, Try resetting the System Management Controller:

4.And try resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, although this issue would be fairly rare:
