The battery won't charge when the laptop gets too hot. Any suggestions?

This is to do with the new 'battery health management' feature released in MacOS Catalina, which reduces the rate at which the battery in your Mac chemically ages by monitoring the battery's temperature history and charging patterns. So basically, your mac is preserving it's internals.

'Based on the measurements that it collects, battery health management may reduce your battery’s maximum charge when in this mode. This happens as needed to ensure that your battery charges to a level that’s optimized for your usage — reducing wear on the battery, and slowing its chemical aging.'

To disable:

Settings> Energy saver > Battery health (located at bottom left) > Then untick battery health management.

If it doesn't affect you that much, leave it on as it'll preserve your battery in the long run. If it does, turn it off.

Let me know if this helps!
