Can a stolen iphone be erased?

Can a stolen iphone in lost mode be erased without apple id by using recovery mode or any third software?

Anyone can always erase any iPhone by connecting it to a computer with iTunes and restoring it as a new device. As long as it is still listed under your AppleID though, they cannot complete activation after erasing it, so cannot use it.


Activation lock doesn’t prevent anyone from erasing a device. It just prevents them from actually using it after they erase it.
