trying to update to catalina

I'm trying to update to catalina by updating first to mojave. Every time I try, a pop-up occurs, stating that the version is damaged and cannot update. Is there an easy fix for this? I have a MacBook Retina, 12", early 2015.

Open the Applications folder and throw the existing installer away.
