About ipad screen with small sliding screen on left that substitutes for full page and slides out if you tap on the item of interest to read it.

I am not a great apple user. I was switched after years in microsoft systems. So even the basics discussed often leaves me struggling to understand. I need clear step by step processing like baby steps for a toddler in this environment. Just lately this little small screen is popping over from the left of my screen instead of just taking me to the full page I want to read when I tap on the article I want to read. I don't remember initiating this function so it makes me wonder if the update just decided it was a great idea and that has indeed happened more times than I can count. I hate it! So how do I stop it? And instructions must be basic for me. I am old and in this apple environment really dumb to the little icons and the venacular references for the apple community.

You have clearly managed to enable a Safari Slide Over view - this being a major multitasking feature of iPadOS, fully detailed in the iPad User Guide for iPadOS.

Here is the easy way to change the Slide Over view, to full screen...

Identify the small grey drag-bar at top-centre of the Slide Over window. Touch-and-drag the drag-bar to the top-centre of the screen - and lift your finger; the Slide Over window will transform into a full screen view.
