Here is How to upgrade to macOS Catalina - Apple Support

If your MacBook Pro is compatible with Catalina, please post any diagnostics or errors that might be showing.

If you’ve add-on security apps or add-on cleaners, try booting into Safe Mode and try the upgrade from there.

Late 2011 cannot run Catalina...


Mac Hardware Requirements

For details about your Mac model, click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and choose About This Mac. These Mac models are compatible with macOS Catalina:

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)

MacBook Pro Late 2011 is not supported with Catalina.


There isn’t a MacBook (Late 2011) model listed, nor MacBook Air (late 2011), though there is a MacBook Pro from then.


Whichever Mac model this is, no Mac of any sort from 2011 is supported with Catalina. The oldest of all of the Macs supported with Catalina is from 2012.
