Can I update the operating system for a MacBook Air from 2011?

I have an old MacBook Air and want to update the operating system. Can I do that and if so how? I can't figure it out from the App Store.

First, Find out which macOS your Mac is using - Apple Support. It should indicate macOS High Sierra.
