Time Machine backups and IMac 2020 Catalina

Current Time Machines backups are done under High Sierra on a late 2012 IMac.

Moving soon to a new 2020 Imac under Catalina.

Backups are currently done on an external HDD drive.

In theory we should be able to use the same HDD drive to continue the backups and restores.

Could someone confirm or tell me otherwise.
