I have space in my iCloud but my phone won't back up to the icloud

I deleted ALL my photos from the iCloud because I use google photos.

I put $50 on my account so that $1.99 could be taken out of my account for storage, but Apple took $9.99 a month. I immediately downloaded my photos to Google Photos, and they take $2.99 out of my account. Just letting you know that Apple's accounting practices are criminal.

They won't back up my phone to the cloud because they say I don't have enough storage, but that is not true.

How do I backup my phone?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13

A couple of things. First, if Apple is still charging you for iCloud storage, then you haven't canceled and downgraded to the complimentary 5GB -- Downgrade your iCloud storage - Apple Support.

Second, if you are getting a message that you're out of storage, then it's most likely due to a lack of storage space on your device. Here's how to check - About storage on your device and in iCloud - Apple Support & How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.

Or you could follow these instructions instead --
