For avoidance of doubt...

Apple Pencil (2nd generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (2nd generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and later
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) and later <<<

Apple Pencil (1st generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (1st generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st or 2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)

Not sure which iPad you have? Identify your iPad model.

As I understand it from Apple sales the answer is NO.

This incompatibility has caused me to wait to purchase a new iPad Pro as I typically need to purchase three pencils. They get scattered amongst the house and office and I can't chance not having one as I am dependent upon a 7 inch cylindrical object can be the difference between getting my job done efficiently or not! I can't bring myself to retire these perfectly good pencils. I wish Apple had a swap out program for pencils.

I will wait for now and hope Apple builds in a 'find me' tool so I can purchase two instead of three.

Best of luck. The new pencil does appear to be 'better' but the cost is high, which is not surprising for the value it brings.
