Ethernet connection suddenly no longer working os Catalina 10.15.6

2 days ago it was working fine. I am using mac mini. I can connect with wifi but as soon as I add ethernet again the connection stops. My internet provider thought this was apple issue. I have forced a scan through terminal but this has not fixed it. Many thanks if you can help.
