My new MacBook Air never really shuts off although I follow the instructions to go to the Apple menu and click on "shut down". However, whenever I start it up again, battery power is down because it did not switch off.
Try resetting the smc How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
Make sure when you shut down that you give it time to completely shutdown before you close the lid.
Many thanks for the tipp Mike, unfortunately it did not work. Still does not shut down. It is a brand new device, but might be defective. Also implemented all software updates but that did not help either. I will have to go to the Apple Store with it. Thanks for your help though!
