I have a folder with question mark icon?

My mac book is not booting up. It is showing a folder icon with question mark

Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer was running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier and you reach the third set of steps, insert a Mac OS X install disk.

I have tried recovery option but on disk utlity it is not showing my internal hard disk... only Base OS X is visible

The internal drive is either dead or not connected properly. This requires a hardware repair; use the link to contact Apple Support in the article, or visit an authorized service provider.
