My mouse will not connect to iMac, it’s about 10 years old and has always worked. Put new batteries in and verified good batteries

All of a sudden my mouse will not connect, new batteries and verified good

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

My iMac wireless mouse is not working. Replaced both batteries turned unit on and off and on but no connection is made. Also the green light does not come on. My magic mouse is not connecting to my imac... it does not show up in bluetooth but when it is plugged in and i turn the mouse off it shows "mouse off" but will not connect wirelessley. I had it on the charger turned on for a bit so the it should be charged.
