I thought I canceled a an app subscription before the renewal date but the renewal went through and I was charged for another year. How do I completely remove this subscription from my account, so I don't get charged for it again next year?

If you cancelled it less than 24 hours prior to its renewal date you will be charged. To see if you've now stopped it (you cannot delete subscriptions from an account, only stop or renew/restart them) : See or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support
