Icloud Messages

I have an iPhone 6s - Upgrading to iPhone 11 but my iCloud does not back up my text messages and i don't see an option to do so. How can I ensure my text messages can save to my iCloud for backup before receiving new phone?

messages on phone AND icloud If I turn on messages under iCloud it looks like my messages are stored on iCloud and NOT on my device. Is there a way to have my message on both my iPhone and a backup on iCloud? It doesn’t look like messages are part of the backup currently.

If you're using messages in iCloud - Keep all your messages in iCloud - Apple Support, then it's not considered part of a backup - What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support.
