Ipod nano 7th gen won't sync with my MacBook Pro

I recently bought a ipod nano 7th generation. When I connect it to my MacBook Pro (Os Catalina 10.15.5) it recognises the ipod is connected and says it needs to sync. When I click on the 'get started' button it says 'Software: Loading' and nothing else happens. I've tried this many times and have even tried leaving it loading overnight but no joy. I've tried using different apple connection cables and have updated the software on my laptop but still no joy.

Can anyone help??
