QR code scanner opens but it never gives me any options
The scanner opens but it never gives me any options. I can’t open it in the camera app.

You could try using the Control Centre QR code scanner?
You can do this by going to Settings > Control Centre > Customise Controls > Click the green add button next to QR Code Reader.
Now open the control centre (swipe up from bottom, or swipe down from top right) and click this icon:
