Why should it take 3 days to reset a password?

You can edit your personal information and change passwords by logging into your AppleID account at https://appleid.apple.com

If you are locked out of your Apple ID account you can go to https://iforgot.apple.com

This will provide you with the recovery steps you put in place for this situation.

If you were able to use the password to sign in, that normally cancels the automated password recovery. The reason it takes 3 days is Apple now uses an automated system to provide greater security.
