Airpods blink green and ding when trying to hard reset them

So my airpods have been not working like they are supposed to, so i tried to reset them. i hold down the button then it flashes white, then after about 10 seconds it dings and they light up green for 1 second, then after 15 seconds no amber light appears and they turn back to green. does anyone know what this problem could be?
