I'm trying to edit a book on Pages, and I see the option to add page numbers, but I'm not able to select it. How can I change that, or how do I manipulate more things in general when I use a book template?

Further thoughts. Click on the Document tab in the Inspector and tick the Header and/or the Footer boxes. Then you can insert a page number.
