Deleting messages from iCloud

If I do this:

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Tap Settings > [your name].
  2. Tap iCloud.
  3. Tap Manage Storage.
  4. Tap Messages, then tap Disable & Delete.

will it delete my messages on my device, or only delete them on the cloud. I want to keep my messages, I’m simply trying to get rid of the pestering messages on how I need to subscribe to more storage space (which is nonsense).
