I lost my iPhone 6s password, and had to restore it all from the backup.
Now when I want to update the phone settings it wants the old password to fully use the capabilities of the phone and and won't approve it from the iCloud?
What do I do? It all started because I forgot my password?!

And you almost certainly will need to see If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201485
Before trying to answer your security questions is very important that you think about your questions and their answers carefully and try to recall all details you can. If you don't answer them correctly enough, then you easily can lose control of your account.

I lost my iPhone password, not the Apple ID password.
I'll try to explain:
After restoring the iPhone from a backup, with a new password for the phone, the iCloud insists on me giving it the old iPhone password in order to have full access to all the old items on the phone.
it's sort of a Catch 22...
Passcode - what is the difference between passcode and password - I guess I have to Google that.
I am scared for loosing data. I've already lost some important things by having to reconfigure the phone :0(

If you see an option to reset encrypted data, several people have posted they did that and lost little to no data.

Then you will need to remember the old passcode.
ended up resetting the encrypted data on all my devices and then they each asked the password of the other device and now they all talk to each other and to the iCloud.
