I have a new iPhone but there was a delay in transferring my old number to it! It appears iMessage is registered to the temporary number given with the new iPhone not my current number, how can I change this? I only just discovered this as I am having problems sending iMessage to an android phone

Another process

Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
Restart your device.

Remove the temporary number from https://appleid.apple.com
