Reset Macbook Air

I factory reset my Macbook Air as I am giving it to my son. The screen asks to select disk where I want to instal OS X El Capitan but I have no options, how can I fix this?????

Long story short, this is my first Macbook and I have no way of downloading El Capitan since it is no longer available. I cannot reinstall the OS X. I made a USB Bootable and it doesn't detect when I hold option/alt. I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do anymore. I do not want to take it to Apple for the sole reason that I am broke now and do not want to pay for the repairs. So, yeah. I'm sure someone here has another option for me. Thanks.

You may need to reformat your Mac’s internal storage device.
