SuperDrive not reading dvds

My MacBook (2008) reads and burns cds no problem. However, it has stopped reading dvds. They just spin around then eject. Any suggestions? Is it possible to fix?

I bought a new one, thinking was a hardware problem. The issue remained. I have since upgraded to a 16" M1Pro MacBook Pro running Monterey and still the problem persists. When the Superdrive is plugged in, I can see it in System Information // Hardware // Disc Burning. When I insert disks -- no matter what disk or type of disk, purchased CDs, purchased DVDs, blank CD-Rs... -- the drive whirrs for a bit, then spits the disk out. Strikes me, thus, as some sort of software conflict? Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

SuperDrive doesn't react anymore Last week during the holidays my gf and I did a Harry Potter Marathon. During this event we used a USB SuperDrive to watch the DVD box. This SuperDrive we used it already for quite a fewtimes the watch the HP serie. But after a little break and during the start of a new episode the SuperDrive took the DVD but didn’t start the DVD. At that moment the I checked the Utility Disk and the SuperDrive didn’t show up in the list. When I pull out the usb port and push it back in a Mac I hear the Drive starting to read the DVD for 1 sec. Then it doesn’t do anything. We used the SuperDrive with a MacBook Pro 2014, and I tried also a MacBook Pro 2020 and a MacMini2020 with M1 chip. At all of them the SuperDrive has the same reaction of 1 sec starting to read and after that nothing happens. Does somebody know what to do? Is it possible to fix the SuperDrive or is it broken? If it is broken can I get my DVD rejected from the SuperDrive? Thanks in advance.

iMac drive won't recognize blank dvd .. ejects it automatically after spinning for some time Running macOS High Sierra ; mid 2011 desktop. Mac will read most DVD with content. Unreliable reading of CD with content that work fine on a neighbour's desktop. Except for this CD/DVD drive, this has been a really reliable computer. I've not upgraded further as I have programs that I purchased that won't run on a higher system, and these programs have now gone to subscription which is not economically feasible for me. I'm not particularly techie. I did run disk utility and everything was fine. Suggestions please?
