Mac recently updated the IOS, now Microsoft word and excel will not open. Has a circle with a line through the program. Any ideas? Tried updating from App store, but now it wants me to purchase complete Microsoft 365. Any suggestions appreciated.
If you have Office 2016, it can be updated to a 64-bit version.
If you have 2011 or older, you would need to purchase a newer version. Office 2019 has a one-time purchase option. Look for it on Microsoft's website. They don't sell that on the App Store.
Depending on your needs, you might be able to use the iWork programs, Pages, Numbers, Keynote. If you need more compatibility, then LibreOffice is free.
The only way to get full compatibility is buying the new version of Office.
You need to install a 64bit version of Microsoft apps.
Versions that are compatible with Catalina are Office 2016, Office 2019 and Office 365.
