The Apple TV app on your smart TV can show your iTunes Store purchases and Apple TV app Channel subscriptions, but not your Home Sharing content. For getting Home Sharing content on your TV, you will need an Apple TV set-top box.
You may be able to use AirPlay, if your TV supports that.
That would mean operating from the Mac, but the content would still be on your TV.
