Video compression

I recorded a 10 minute video on my iPad. The resultant file was 1.3GB and is next to unusable due to its size. There are no settings to change the format under which the file is saved. How do I create videos with my iPad that are not gigantic? I've spent several hours downloading various apps but all are overly complicated or require me to pay which I really don't want to do - I've just spend a fortune on an expensive iPad!

I don't have an Apple desktop BTW.
