Why won't my AirPods connect to my MacBook Pro?

Did they every connect at one time in the near past to your MacBook Pro? Have they been paired successfully with your iPhone before? Is your MacBook Pro connected to the same Apple ID as your iPhone (assuming you paired successfully with your iPhone).

Since I do not know answers to any of the above except that your iPods won't connect your MacBook Pro, I will provide an answer just for the question as it has been asked-
