Finder application does not open and the files on desktop missing

Maybe boot in safe mode and see what happens. If it work in safe mode, restart back to normal.

Finder Losing Ability to Show Existing Files and Folders Finder has gotten flakey with regard to showing files and folders. Sometimes files and folders show up - and at other times some files and folders aren't seen. The files & folders aren't hidden. It would be nice to resolve this. =(
