Apple Watch not receiving notifications

Apple Watch not receiving any notifications. Checked the Apple Watch is connected with the green phone icon in the control centre, alerts are on, do not disturb etc. is off. Turned off wrist detection and covert to mute, still the same. Phone is locked when testing with messages etc. Apple Watch series 1 and iPhone XS. Any ideas?
