Can I play music on Watch 3 GPS without my phone?

If I am an Apple Music user, can I download playlists/music onto the Apple Watch 3 GPS and play them on my watch without my phone with me? I want to be able to go on a run and only bring the watch and my AirPods to play music. With my cellular plan- I am unable to buy the cellular version of the watch. I want to see if I can play music without the watch being near my iPhone. Please help!
