Keynote Presentation Black Screen

When I begin my Keynote presentation after about 5 slides the screen becomes black. This is the case whether I have it on normal play or self-play. If I click as though I am moving the slides forward and then hit escape I see that the slides have actually advanced the number of clicks I have used but I have been unable to see any of the slides. I have seen this problem discussed on other posts but no one has given a solution. Is there any thing to be done?

Hi Mosma,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having difficulties with Keynote becoming black during your presentation. I'd be happy to help.

Before we continue further do you have a backup? If not that's alright. It's always recommended to have a backup before troubleshooting potential issues. If you'd like to make a backup here is a great resource: Back up your Mac with Time Machine

After you have a back up there are two things I'd recommend. The first being check your Energy Settings to ensure your display isn't going to sleep. You can do this by going to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Adjust turn display off. After adjusting that setting try your presentation again and see if the behaviour continues.

If your issues is still present the next step that I would recommend is creating a test user. Here is a great resource on how to use a test user to isolate an issue: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Thanks and have a great day.
