Logic Pro Crashing after updating to 10.5 - Please Help

This morning I was opening up a recent project and logic prompted me to update to 10.5, so I did, and then I ran in to problems.

Every time I hit play the project I had open instantly crashed. After some phone calls with apple support I still can't figure out what is causing the crashes.

Here is what I gathered so far...

  • The crashes are happening with my two most recent saved projects before updating to 10.5. I've opened other projects and the songs could play through just fine.
  • I can play parts of these projects but when it hits certain points or when i move the play-bar-cursor (not sure exact term) over certain parts it crashes.
  • I've tested both projects and they both crash at the same points in their respective projects, it doesn't seem to be random. It's like a certain track or number of tracks are causing the crash during playback.

So obviously I thought...it must be a certain plugin that is on certain tracks and when it comes to playpack of those sections, logic crashes, however, I can't find a certain plugin or instrument vst that links both the crash points in both projects. Possibly omnisphere? But then again I could playback omnisphere tracks in other projects. I haven't had any crashes when opening plugin windows, it's only during playing or moving the play bar cursor over certain parts of the project.

I'm really stumped here. I guess I'll just keep trying everything I can to narrow down what is causing the issue but I really need these project files, I need to finish these songs. I'm also afraid when I start a new project these kind of crashes will follow (i did some brief toying around of opening a new project, creating some audio and software instrument tracks, etc to see if it would crash and so far it hasn't) Any help would be so much appreciated.

Firstly have you any backups? If you’re serious about your music that would be the first thing I’d address. You always need to be able to go back to a working system, program or project.

if not, I think you’re stuck. Some plug in developers Spectrasonics being one have issued 10.5 compatibility statements, https://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=774&categoryID=84&searchq=10.5&c=71

Create a blank project with no third party plugins and see if that crashes? if not save that as a template and build from there.

Yeah I backup frequently. I tried to restore the previous version of logic while on the phone with an apple representative earlier using time machine and we went through many days of backups and the logic icon had the little greyd out circle with the slash through it like it wasn't an option to click and the apple representative kind of didn't think I could restore to a previous version of logic.

I'd prefer to restore to a previous version of logic and I mean I have backups from a week ago...I should be able to, right?
