are apple replace new decice or refurbished set because at model number it said N

before i bought a original set iphone but there was a problem causing them to replace it with another, i previously read model number N meant refurbished set. is it true that apple replace new model with refurbished set?

“N” equals a replacement device, which could be new or refurbished, with no way to distinguish.
