Since April 8 my data usage has gone from zero usage to exceeding my limit. Was there an update which has switched something on in the background? I’ve now switched most things off but it’s still using data while not using phone.
Did you look in settings>cellular to see what's using all the data?

This probably isn't a helpful reply but my iPhone 6sPlus is doing this to. It's getting ridiculous. I even switched carriers thinking maybe that would fix it. Nope!
Check if WiFi Assist is turned on. After an update the setting is changed to ON by default.
