Working with text in Notes

How do you select text in a list in Notes for MacOS Catalina?

Before I upgraded to this OS I was using High Sierra, and you could just click the cursor and drag to select whatever amount of text you wanted. Now, it just grabs that item of the list and moves it around. Is this unavoidable?

Can you stop Notes from grabbing a whole line whenever you drag in a list? Whenever I want to select some text in a list Notes defaults to picking up the whole line and dragging it, rather than selecting the range I'm wanting like every other word processor. Is there a way to turn this functionality off, it's really messing with my muscle memory, and reduces the functionality of the program. The only way it seems you can select from within a line in a list is to place the cursor at one end and use shift-arrow to select the letters one by one - this is obviously needlessly time consuming. I literally get no benefit from the functionality of grabbing the whole line, it is only ever an impediment and trips me up every time.

Cut and paste in Notes With the recent upgrade to Monterey, my Notes seems to have lost the ability to allow me to cut and paste text within a note. The highlight function seems to be modified: I can only highlight a contiguous non-blank section of text, and cannot position the cursor and highlight an entire line or section. This is just one of many changes I've run across in Monterey: it's a rather disappointing release of iOS. The kind of programming I came to expect from Microsoft back when I was stuck with PCs.

Notes App - Unable to Copy & Paste Formatted Text to a New Note The ability to copy & paste formatted text from one note to another new note has been lost in the past 1-2 days. I have been doing this for a long time which is an extremely convenient feature but it suddenly stopped working. I am using a MacBook Pro 2019 with macOS Big Sur 11.4. Any idea how to duplicate a note or to copy & paste formatted text to a new note?

I see the same thing.

A solution is to click just once to place the cursor, and then use the keyboard to make a selection - e.g. shift-right arrow to extend to the right, etc. Also, double-clicking selects a full word (and again, you can extend using the keyboard).
