Finder Sidebar

Question

I can add folders and files to the Finder Sidebar - but I can find no way to remove them.

I cannot believe it is not possible - so how do I do it?

iMac 27", macOS 10.13

Remove an item: Drag the item icon out of the sidebar until you see the remove sign .

I had tried dragging them to the trash but that didn't work.
