I am not aware of the ambient temperature in which you are using the iPhone. However --> Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable ...

Store the device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.

SAME heat issues here with iPhone 7 Plus 128gb after upgrading to 13.4.1. Previous 13.4 was fine.

Very hot playing COD, much more than normal. Now very hot just browsing the Internet ad haven’t played games all day. I had to search for this problem online and I came upon this thread.

I resolved my overheating issue! 1 of 2 (or both) steps helped with the overheating:

1) Fresh iOS install (aka restore DO NOT restore from backup) via PC. When it came back up (as new device) the iPhone remained cool.

I decided to restore from backup and when the phone came back up with my original apps, settings, etc. the phone heated up immediately, same as before. So that helped me isolate the issue to an app with a possible memory leak. If you insist on restoring from backup (like i did for passwords and text message restoral) then you have to:

2) Delete all apps one by one until you find the culprit or delete them all and reinstall them back as necessary.

I suspect it’s was a bad app that kept CPU usage high in the background. It was getting so hot that it was affecting WiFi stability (1mbps when overheat / 80mbps when cool). Now I’m barely getting warm (pre ios13.4.1) and everything is running happy.
